Pau Casals Auditorium. It was opened on the 6th of June 1981 thanks to the effort and good will of different institutions to save all the difficulties at the moment. Jordi Bonet Armengol was the architect. He wrote: "The whole building reminds me an awning and it shows clearly the functional nature of a concert hall. The inward appearance will pretend to be a boat keel, showing its ribcage. This will allow a reflector or absorbent surface that will break the sound and will correct the reverberation time till the optimum demanded for the concert halls".

It has to be emphasized the lighting of the room and the stained glass windows at the back of the stage, made by the painter Vila Grau and the glazier Granell. |
|
In 1983 a big space next to the Auditorium was urbanized: it is the called Joan Sebastian Bach Square, with a Josep M. Subirachs sculpture. This sculpture, in honor of Pau Casals, represents Apolo, God of music and poetry, playing cello. On the base of the sculpture you can read the following phrase: "Bach is a miracle". |
